C-raven vsebuje vse notranje signalizacijske informacije in protokoli omrežne plasti so združeni v naslednje družine postopkov:
• nadzor klicev (CC),
• nadomestne storitve (SS),
• sporočilna storitev, usmerjena na povezavo (COMS),
• sporočilna storitev brez povezave (CLMS),
• upravljanje mobilnosti (MM),
• entiteta kontrole povezave (LCE).

Overview

ETSI EN 300 175-5 V2.8.1 (2019-12) (identical to ETSI EN 300 175‑5 V2.8.1) specifies the Network (NWK) layer - layer 3 of the DECT protocol stack - for the DECT Common Interface (CI). This European standard defines the control plane (C‑plane) protocols and internal signalling for DECT devices and systems. The document does not define a user plane (U‑plane) at the NWK layer (the U‑plane is null for all services at this layer). It follows layered modelling principles from ITU‑T X.200 and X.210 and includes provisions for New Generation DECT features such as wideband, super‑wideband and fullband speech/audio, improved data services and new slot types.

Key topics and technical scope

  • Layer and scope: NWK layer (layer 3) of DECT CI; C‑plane only.
  • Procedure families:
    • Call Control (CC) - call setup, connect, release, service change and related signalling.
    • Supplementary Services (SS) - keypad protocol, feature key management and functional protocols.
    • Connection Oriented Message Service (COMS) - setup, data transfer, suspend/resume and release.
    • ConnectionLess Message Service (CLMS) - fixed and variable length message transport.
    • Mobility Management (MM) - identity, authentication, location, access rights, key allocation and parameter retrieval.
    • Link Control Entity (LCE) - data link establishment, re‑establishment, release, paging and queuing.
  • Message definitions: structure and information elements, with S‑FORMAT message functional contents and message summaries for CC, SS, COMS, CLMS, MM, LCE.
  • New Generation DECT: support for wideband/super‑wideband/fullband audio and enhanced data services.
  • Standards alignment: references ITU‑T layered model recommendations (X.200, X.210).

Practical applications and who uses this standard

This standard is essential for:

  • Telecom equipment manufacturers designing DECT handsets, base stations, cordless PBX components and gateways.
  • Firmware and protocol stack developers implementing NWK layer C‑plane signalling.
  • System integrators and enterprise telecom architects deploying DECT systems for office, healthcare or industrial environments.
  • Conformance and test laboratories creating interoperability and certification tests for DECT CI.
  • Research and standardization teams evaluating New Generation DECT features and mobility behaviour.

Typical applications:

  • Cordless telephony and enterprise DECT deployments
  • DECT‑based voice, paging and short message systems
  • Interworking between DECT CI and external networks through NWK signalling
  • Implementations requiring wideband/super‑wideband/fullband audio support

Related standards

  • ETSI EN 300 175 series (DECT Common Interface parts) - Part 5 is the NWK layer.
  • ITU‑T Recommendation X.200 and X.210 (layered model terminology and principles).
  • National adoption: SIST publication of ETSI deliverable as SIST EN 300 175‑5 V2.8.1:2020.
