Foreword
rd
This Technical Specification has been produced by the 3 Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
The contents of the present document are subject to continuing work within the TSG and may change following formal
TSG approval. Should the TSG modify the contents of the present document, it will be re-released by the TSG with an
identifying change of release date and an increase in version number as follows:
Version x.y.z
where:
x the first digit:
1 presented to TSG for information;
2 presented to TSG for approval;
3 or greater indicates TSG approved document under change control.
y the second digit is incremented for all changes of substance, i.e. technical enhancements, corrections,
updates, etc.
z the third digit is incremented when editorial only changes have been incorporated in the document.
Introduction
The present document specifies minimum performance requirements for the acoustic characteristics of 3G, LTE, and
WLAN terminals when used to provide narrowband, wideband, super-wideband or fullband telephony.
The objective for narrowband services is to reach a quality as close as possible to ITU-T standards for PSTN circuits.
However, due to technical and economic factors, there cannot be full compliance with the general characteristics of
international telephone connections and circuits recommended by the ITU-T.
The performance requirements are specified in the main body of the text; the test methods and considerations are
described in TS 26.132.
ETSI
3GPP TS 26.131 version 14.2.0 Release 14 8 ETSI TS 126 131 V14.2.0 (2019-10)
1 Scope
The present document is applicable to any terminal capable of supporting narrowband, wideband, super-wideband or
fullband telephony, either as a stand-alone service or as the telephony component of a multimedia service. The present
document specifies minimum performance requirements for the acoustic characteristics of 3G, LTE and WLAN
terminals when used to provide narrowband, wideband, super-wideband or fullband telephony.
The set of minimum performance requirements enables a guaranteed level of speech quality while taking possible
physical limits of the terminal design into account. Some performance objectives are also defined, if such design limits
can be overcome. Care must be taken in applying performance objectives in isolation, not to degrade overall end-user
speech quality.
2 References
The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of the present
document.
- References are either specific (identified by date of publication, edition number, version number, etc.) or
non-specific.
- For a specific reference, subsequent revisions do not apply.
- For a non-specific reference, the latest version applies. In the case of a reference to a 3GPP document (including
a GSM document), a non-specific reference implicitly refers to the latest version of that document in the same
Release as the present document.
