The standard EN IEC 61558-2-4:2025 is a crucial document addressing the safety of isolating transformers and power supply units that incorporate such transformers for general applications. The scope of this standard is clear and comprehensive, focusing on the essential safety aspects-including electrical, thermal, and mechanical-associated with these devices. It explicitly applies to both stationary and portable transformers, offering guidelines that enhance safety for single-phase and polyphase power supply units, ensuring they meet necessary requirements even in varied applications. A significant strength of this standard lies in its detailed specifications regarding the rated supply voltages and output capacities. By setting boundaries such as a maximum of 1,000 V AC for the rated supply voltage and limiting output ratings to 25 kVA for single-phase and 40 kVA for polyphase transformers, the standard delineates safe operating parameters that manufacturers and users must adhere to. This not only guarantees compliance but also fosters confidence in product safety. Moreover, the inclusion of stipulations regarding transformers intended for special applications and the treatment of transformers in diverse environments-such as vehicles, ships, and aircraft-exemplifies the document's adaptability to contemporary technological developments.
