Optical fibres - Part 2-50: Product specifications - Sectional specification for class B single-mode fibres

IEC 60793-2-50:2008 is applicable to optical fibre types B1.1, B1.2, B1.3, and categories B2, B4, B5 and B6. A map illustrating the connection of IEC designations to ITU-T designations is shown in Annex I. These fibres are used or can be incorporated in information transmission equipment and optical fibre cables. The main technical changes of this edition include: - aligns the requirements with the relevant ITU-T Recommendations, including tightening the tolerances of many parameters; - adds a new category, B5, which corresponds to the fibres defined in ITU-T Recommendation G.656; and - adds a new category, B6, which corresponds to the fibres defined in ITU-T Recommendation G.657.

La CEI 60793-2-50:2008 est applicable aux fibres optiques de type B1.1, B1.2, B1.3 et de catégorie B2, B4, B5 et B6. Une table illustrant la correspondance des désignations CEI par rapport aux désignations UIT-T figure à l'Annexe I. Ces fibres sont utilisées ou peuvent être intégrées dans des équipements pour la transmission de l'information et dans des câbles à fibres optiques. Cette révision technique - aligne les exigences avec les Recommandations UIT-T applicables, y compris le resserrement des tolérances de nombreux paramètres; - ajoute une nouvelle catégorie, B5, qui correspond aux fibres définies dans la Recommandation UIT-T G.656; et - ajoute une nouvelle catégorie, B6, qui correspond aux fibres définies dans la Recommandation UIT-T G.657.

Foreword
The text of document 86A/1164/CDV, future edition 3 of IEC 60793-2-50, prepared by SC 86A, Fibres
and cables, of IEC TC 86, Fibre optics, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was
approved by CENELEC as EN 60793-2-50 on 2008-10-01.
This European Standard supersedes EN 60793-2-50:2004 + corrigendum July 2004.
Compared to EN 60793-2-50:2004, this EN 60793-2-50:2008
– aligns the requirements with the relevant ITU-T Recommendations, including tightening the tolerances
of many parameters;
– provides a means for defining the requirements of sub-categories;
– now includes two sub-categories for B1.2 fibres;
– now includes three sub-categories for B4 fibres;
– replaces the traditional method of specifying chromatic dispersion coefficient by limiting curves vs.
wavelength for two of the sub-categories for B4 fibres;
– adds a new category, B5, which corresponds to the fibres defined in ITU-T Recommendation G.656;
– adds a new category, B6, which corresponds to the fibres defined in ITU-T Recommendation G.657;
– adds an informative annex that maps the nomenclature of the IEC fibre specifications to that of the
ITU-T fibre recommendations;
– adds a clause for definitions;
– adds a clause for abbreviations;
– removes the dates from the normative references.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2009-07-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2011-10-01
Annex ZA has been added by CENELEC.
