Tehnični standard vsebuje definicijo zahtev glede zmogljivosti za izdelek skupaj z naborom serij preskusov in meritev z jasno določenimi pogoji, stopnjami zahtevnosti in merili za uspešno/neuspešno opravljen preskus. Preskusi so namenjeni enkratnemu izvajanju, z njimi pa se dokaže, ali lahko izdelek izpolnjuje zahteve tehničnega standarda.
