Overview
EN IEC 62343-1:2019 (IEC 62343-1:2019) defines the general conditions for performance standards of optical dynamic modules. It establishes the baseline environmental, spectral and test-condition requirements that all individual performance standards in the IEC 62343 series reference. This edition (2019) supersedes EN 62343-1:2016 and corrects/updates elements such as operating-condition and storage tables.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope and purpose
- Provides general conditions for standard performance tests of optical dynamic modules used in fibre optic systems.
- Performance tests are intended for initial design verification; reliability requirements are covered separately (IEC 62343-2).
- Operating conditions (minimum requirements)
- Operating temperature (case): −5 °C to 70 °C.
- Operating relative humidity: under consideration (modules are typically used in controlled central-office environments).
- Vibration: 5 Hz–100 Hz at up to 1 g (3 mm) sweep, 3-axis; optional 100–200 Hz at up to 2 g.
- Shock and maximum input power: specified in individual performance standards.
- Operating wavelength range (spectral bands)
- Spectral bands follow ITU‑T G.Supplement 39: O (1260–1360 nm), E (1360–1460 nm), S (1460–1530 nm), C (1530–1565 nm), L (1565–1625 nm), U (1625–1675 nm).
- Storage and non‑operating conditions (informative recommendations)
- Storage temperature: −40 °C to 70 °C (ambient).
- Storage relative humidity: 5% to 85% RH; absolute humidity within 24 g/kg dry air.
- Non‑operating shock/vibration/drop/packed transportation: typical values are given for module mass ranges and packed handling.
- Absolute maximum ratings (recommended items)
- Applied voltage, current, electrical power, input optical power - to be defined in product specifications.
Applications and who uses this standard
- Manufacturers and designers of optical dynamic modules (e.g., tunable filters, dynamic equalizers) use EN IEC 62343-1:2019 to set baseline test conditions for product performance validation.
- Test laboratories and QA teams use it to design reproducible performance tests and pass/fail criteria.
- Network equipment vendors and system integrators reference it when specifying module acceptance criteria for fiber optic systems deployed in central office or controlled environments.
- Procurement, certification and standards compliance teams rely on it for harmonized performance definitions across markets.
