This European Standard specifies a method of analytical evaluation and interpretation of the thermal stress experienced by a subject in a hot environment. It describes a method of calculation the heat balance as well as the sweat rate that the human body should produce to maintain this balance in equilibrium: this sweat rate is called the "required sweat rate".

Diese Internationale Norm gibt ein Verfahren zur analytischen Bestimmung und Interpretation der Wärmebelastung an, der eine Person in warmen Umgebungsklima ausgesetzt ist. Sie enthält ein Verfahren sowohl zur Berechnung der Wärme- bilanz als auch der Schweissrate, die der menschliche Körper produzieren muss, um diese Bilanz im Gleichgewicht zu halten: Diese Schweissrate wird die "erforderliche Schweissrate" genannt.
