Blinds and shutters - Thermal and visual comfort - Performance characteristics and classification

This document applies to the whole range of shutters, awnings and blinds defined in EN 12216, described as solar protection devices in this document.
It specifies the corresponding properties and classifications:
-   relating to thermal comfort:
-   the solar factor (total solar energy transmittance);
-   the secondary heat transfer factor;
-   the direct solar transmittance;
-   relating to visual comfort:
-   the darkening performance;
-   the night privacy;
-   the visual contact with the outside;
-   the glare control;
-   the daylight utilization;
-   the rendering of colours.
NOTE   For other purposes, more detailed methods using different parameters can be used.
Some of the characteristics (e.g. gtot) are not applicable when solar protection devices are not parallel to the glazing (e.g. folding-arm awnings).
This document is not applicable to the solar protection devices using fluorescent materials.

A.3 Reference glazing with spectral data
A.3.1 General
This clause specifies reference glazing for which both integrated data and spectral data of panes are
available.
Spectral data of panes are presented in A.3.5.
NOTE The wavelength intervals for which the spectral data are given impact the results of a calculation. In the
case different wavelength intervals are used for the panes and the solar protection material, ISO 19467 provides a
method to calculate the interpolation of wavelengths.
Integrated data are specified in A.3.2 to A.3.4. They were calculated on the basis of the spectral data
specified in A.3.5 using EN 410:2011 for the solar and visual properties and EN 673:2011 for the thermal
property (U-value).
A.3.2 Glazing F
Double glazing (4 mm + 16 mm space + 4 mm), with low emissivity coating in position 3 (outer surface
of the inner pane), space filled with 90% argon:
pane 1 / 16 mm space with argon / pane 2 (flipped)
Thermal properties and integrated solar and visual data of glazing F are presented in Table A.11.

A.3.3 Glazing G
Solar control glazing (6 mm + 16 mm space + 4 mm), space filled with 90 % argon:
pane 3 / 16 mm space with argon / pane 1
Thermal properties and integrated solar and visual data of glazing G are presented in Table A.12.
