This European standard specifies the safety requirements and test methods for child safety barriers for domestic use which are designed to be fitted across openings which limits the child's access within the home to prevent young children up to 24 months of age passing through, but which can be removed or opened by older persons able to operate the locking mechanism. This European standard does not apply to devices designed to be fitted across windows and the like.

In dieser Europäischen Norm werden die sicherheitstechnischen Anforderungen und die Prüfverfahren für Kinderschutzgitter für den Hausgebrauch festgelegt, die an Öffnungen so zu befestigen sind, daß die Zugangsmöglichkeiten eines Kindes innerhalb des Hauses eingeschränkt sind, um so Kinder im Alter bis 24 Monaten am Durchgang zu hindern. Solche Kinderschutzgitter können aber von erwachsenen Personen, die den Schließmechanismus betätigen können, entfernt oder geöffnet werden. Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für Vorrichtungen, die an Fenstern oder ähnlichem zu befestigen sind.

La présente norme européenne spécifie les exigences de sécurité et les méthodes d'essai applicables aux barrières de sécurité pour enfants, à usage domestique destinées à être montées en travers des ouvertures afin de restreindre l'accès des enfants à certaines zones à l'intérieur du domicile. Ces barrières sont destinées à empêcher le passage aux enfants en bas âge et jusqu'à 24 mois, mais elles peuvent être retirées ou ouvertes de façon à permettre un accès à des personnes plus âgées capables de manoeuvrer le mécanisme de verrouillage. La présente norme européenne ne s'applique pas aux dispositifs destinés à être montés sur les fenêtres et autres emplacements semblables.
