This European Standard specifies, by reference to EN 344:1992 (1) and EN 344-2, additionnal requirements for safety footwear, relating to water resistance, protection against cutting by hand held chain saws, resistance to fire fighting hazards (footwear for fire fighters), metatarsal protection and cut resistance. Basic and further optional requirements for safety footwear are given in EN 345:1992 (1). (1) Subsequent to the issue of EN 344-2 and EN 345-2, EN 344:1992, and EN 345:1992 will be renumbered into Parts 1.

Cette norme européenne spécifie, en référence à l'EN 344 et prEN 344-2, les exigences additionnelles pour chaussures de sécurité, relatives à la résistance à l'eau, résistance à la coupure des tronçonneuses tenues à la main, résistance aux risques associés aux interventions pour l'extinction des incendies (chaussures pour pompiers), protection des métatarses et résistance aux coupures. Des exigences fondamentales et des exigences supplémentaires optionnelles pour chaussures de sécurité sont données dans l'EN 345:1992.
