Overview
EN 2267-008:2005 is a CEN/AECMA aerospace product standard for the DM family of lightweight electrical cables intended for on‑board aircraft systems. It covers single UV‑laser printable single‑core cables and multicore assemblies rated for continuous operating temperatures from −55 °C to 260 °C (cold testing to −65 °C is acceptable). The standard defines materials, construction, marking and a comprehensive set of tests and quality requirements for high‑temperature, aviation‑grade electrical wiring.
Keywords: EN 2267-008:2005, aerospace cable standard, UV laser printable cable, DM family, aircraft electrical cables, high temperature cable
Key topics and technical requirements
- Materials and conductors
- Conductors: copper or copper alloy, nickel‑plated per EN 4434 (code D).
- Insulation construction
- Inner layer: polyimide tape (nominal 30 µm) coated both sides with 2.5 µm fluorocarbon.
- Outer layer(s): one or two PTFE tapes; tape thicknesses and overlaps specified per conductor size.
- For single cores, the outer PTFE tape must be UV‑laser printable.
- Mechanical / electrical characteristics
- Dimensional, mass and DC resistance limits specified per nominal sections (AWG equivalents).
- Thermal endurance: 60 000 h at 260 °C.
- Flammability: extinguishing time ≤ 3 s.
- Cold performance: cold bend test at −65 ± 2 °C.
- Laser markability: UV laser marking required; contrast requirement K ≥ 50%.
- Test suite and performance
- Follows test methods from EN 3475‑100 and EN 2084: voltage proof, insulation resistance, overload, thermal shock, accelerated ageing, bend/abrasion/torsion/strip tests, smoke density, toxicity, arc tracking, wet short circuit and more.
- Specific mechanical loads and pass/fail criteria listed (e.g., dynamic cut‑through forces by conductor size, scrape abrasion forces).
- Marking and traceability
- Marking by qualified compatible methods must satisfy EN 3838 requirements.
- Quality assurance
- Qualification and QA procedures referenced to EN 9133.
Applications and who uses it
- Intended use: on‑board electrical systems of fixed‑wing and rotorcraft aircraft, avionics harnesses and high‑temperature wiring installations.
- Primary users:
- Aerospace OEMs, wire and cable manufacturers and suppliers
- Avionics and electrical harness designers
- Certification engineers, procurement teams and maintenance/repair organizations
