This International Standard defines terms corresponding to, and gives guidance for the classification of,
mobile and self-propelled machinery used in forestry and related operations. Both the definitions and the
classification have been determined according to the end use of the machines as intended by the
manufacturer. The terms and definitions do not cover all possible forestry and related operations or machinery,
nor do they describe specific machines, but are given as an aid to nomenclature.
This International Standard is applicable to machines designed for use in forestry for site preparation, planting,
harvesting, processing, and the transport of wood and wood fibre. It is not applicable to machines designed to
be used exclusively in sawmills or wood yards, to on-highway transport vehicles, or to aerial vehicles.

This International Standard gives terms and definitions and an identification structure for classifying earthmoving machinery designed to perform the following operations: - excavation, - loading, - transportation, and - drilling, spreading, compacting or trenching of earth and other materials, for example, during work on roads and dams, and on building sites. The purpose of this International Standard is to provide a clear means of identifying machines according to their function and design configurations. Annex A provides a procedure based on the identification structure used by this International Standard for classifying the machinery and for introducing detailed identifications consistent with the logic implied by the structure. Annex B provides a hierarchy of the operator control configurations for earth-moving machinery. The Bibliography provides a list of terminology standards for many of the machine families identified in this International Standard. Included in those terminology standards are figures depicting different configurations of the machine types in each machine family.

It is applicable to all WTORS that use belt-type occupant restraints that are intended for occupied wheelchairs used as forward-facing seats by passengers and drivers of motor vehicles. This part of ISO 10542 is applicable to WTORS intended for use with all types of manual and powered wheelchairs, including three- and four-wheeled scooters, used by children and adults with a body mass equal to or greater than 22 kg. It is applicable also to WTORS designed for limited use with a particular make or model of wheelchair. This part of ISO 10542 is applicable primarily to complete WTORS, but portions can also be applied to components and subassemblies sold separately and for replacement parts.
