CLC/SC 31-9/WG 07 - Fixed Ultrasonic Gas Leak Detectors - General requirements and test methods
Scope - The purpose of this NWIP is to define a series of reference tests that can be used as a basis for comparison between fixed ultrasonic gas leak detectors. This will ensure better clarity for the user when selecting products based on vendor’s product datasheets. We propose the following items should be considered for the scope of an Ultrasonic Gas Leak Detector standard: - · Minimum distance to solid structures (walls, etc.) at test site. · Test gas to be used (nitrogen, methane, etc.) · Leak rates to be used to verify detection range (0,1 kg/sec, 0,03 kg/sec, etc.) · Nozzle shape and size used at all tests leak rate tests · Gas pressure used at all leak rate tests · Time duration of each leak rate test · Test leak nozzle height from solid ground · Test leak nozzle angling relative to test UGLD · Wind speed, air temperature at day of test · Define if test shall be done in upwind, down wind or at no wind. · Define UGLD’s installation relative to height from solid ground · Define different background noise sources, known to interfere with UGLD’s that shall be used close to test detector during all tests. · Specification of detection radius in 3 dimensions . Environmental limitations e.g. Temperature limits on sensors

CLC is a standardization organization that develops and publishes standards to support industry, commerce, and regulatory requirements.
A Subcommittee (SC) in CLC operates under a Technical Committee and focuses on a specific subset of the TC's scope. Subcommittees develop standards and technical specifications in their specialized area, reporting to their parent Technical Committee. They may also have working groups for detailed technical work.
