ISO 6432:2015 establishes a metric series of mounting dimensions required for interchangeability of commonly used pneumatic cylinders for a maximum working pressure of 1 000 kPa (10 bar).
NOTE This International Standard allows manufacturers freedom of design in metric cylinders and does not restrict technical development but provides basic guidelines.

Fluidna tehnika - Pnevmatika - Enosmerni valji vrste 1000 kPa (10 bar) s premerom od 8 mm do 25 mm - Osnovne in vgradne mere

Ta mednarodni standard določa metrične vrste vgradnih mer, ki so potrebne za medsebojno zamenljivost najpogosteje uporabljenih pnevmatskih valjev za največji delovni tlak 1000 kPa (10 barov).
OPOMBA: Ta mednarodni standard proizvajalcem omogoča svobodo pri načrtovanju metričnih valjev in ne omejuje tehničnega razvoja, temveč podaja osnovne napotke.

Overview

SIST ISO 6432:2016 is an international standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) that specifies basic and mounting dimensions for single rod pneumatic cylinders. It applies to cylinders operating at a maximum working pressure of 1 000 kPa (10 bar) with bore sizes ranging from 8 mm to 25 mm. The standard promotes interchangeability and compatibility by establishing a metric series of mounting dimensions commonly used for pneumatic cylinders.

Key to the SIST ISO 6432:2016 standard is that it provides basic guidelines while still allowing manufacturers freedom of design, enabling technical innovation within a standardized framework. This ensures users can select pneumatic cylinders with confidence in compatibility while encouraging ongoing development and customization.

Key Topics

  • Scope and Application: Defines mounting and basic dimensions for single rod pneumatic cylinders with bore sizes 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, and 25 mm designed for up to 1 000 kPa (10 bar).
  • Dimensions and Tolerances: Provides tables and figures for:
    • Basic dimensions including piston rod diameters and stroke considerations.
    • Mounting dimensions for four mounting types: head rectangular flange (MF8), cap fixed eye (MP3), head threaded (MR3), and head angle (MS3).
  • Nominal Stroke: Recommends nominal stroke values according to ISO 4393 and specifies tolerances for strokes up to 100 mm.
  • Piston Rod Characteristics: Includes specifications for shouldered or unshouldered male threads, aligned with ISO 4395.
  • Identification Statement: Guidance for documenting compliance in catalogs, test reports, and sales literature to facilitate industry-wide recognition.

Applications

SIST ISO 6432:2016 is essential for manufacturers, designers, and users involved in pneumatic fluid power systems, especially in industries where pneumatic cylinders are integral to automation, such as:

  • Industrial automation and robotics
  • Manufacturing machinery
  • Material handling equipment
  • Packaging machines
  • Automotive assembly lines

By following SIST ISO 6432:2016, manufacturers ensure their pneumatic cylinders can be readily mounted and replaced without custom adapters, reducing maintenance time and costs. End-users benefit from simplified component selection and assured compatibility among cylinders from different suppliers.

Related Standards

For comprehensive pneumatic cylinder design and installation, SIST ISO 6432:2016 is often used in conjunction with these related ISO standards:

  • ISO 3320: Cylinder bores and piston rod diameters and area ratios - Metric series
  • ISO 4393: Basic series of piston strokes
  • ISO 4395: Cylinder piston rod end types and dimensions
  • ISO 6099: Identification code for mounting dimensions and mounting types
  • ISO 16030: Pneumatic fluid power connections - Ports and stud ends
  • ISO 6430: Pneumatic cylinders with integral mountings (bores 32 mm to 250 mm)
  • ISO 15524 & ISO 15552: Pneumatic cylinders with detachable mountings for larger bore sizes
  • ISO 21287: Compact cylinders, 1 000 kPa series for 20 mm to 100 mm bores

These standards collectively support the design, manufacture, identification, and mounting of pneumatic cylinders, improving interoperability and system reliability.
