SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005 is the Slovenian adoption of ETS 300 237 Edition 2, a European Telecommunication Standard from ETSI for Private Integrated Services Network (PISN) name identification supplementary services. It specifies Calling Name Identification Presentation (SS-CNIP), Connected Name Identification Presentation (SS-CONP), and Calling/Connected Name Identification Restriction (SS-CNIR) for use with various basic services supported by PISNs.
What does SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005 specify?
SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005 specifies the name identification supplementary services for PISN and frames them as an ETSI-approved version of ISO/IEC 13864 (1995) with agreed modifications. In practice, the document tells implementers how the three name-related supplementary services fit into PISN service behavior.
The scope covers:
- SS-CNIP - presentation of the calling party name.
- SS-CONP - presentation of the connected party name.
- SS-CNIR - restriction of calling or connected name identification.
The document applies these services to various basic services supported by PISN, so it is relevant across multiple service types rather than only one call type. The visible structure includes the foreword, the endorsement notice, Clause 3 on normative references, and the document history.
What are the key requirements of SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005?
SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005 concentrates on defining the three name identification supplementary services and the references they depend on. For an implementer, the main point is to support the correct presentation or restriction of name information in the PISN environment.
The three supplementary services
- SS-CNIP specifies Calling Name Identification Presentation. This is the service used when the calling name is to be shown to the receiving side.
- SS-CONP specifies Connected Name Identification Presentation. This matters when the connected party name needs to be presented after the connection is established.
- SS-CNIR specifies Calling/Connected Name Identification Restriction. This tells a network or terminal when name identification should be withheld rather than presented.
In practice, these services define whether name information is available to the user, so implementers need to handle both display and privacy-related behavior.
The ETS endorsement model
The ETS endorses ISO/IEC 13864 (1995) with agreed modifications. That means the ETS is not a fresh standalone text, but an adopted and adapted version of an international standard. For readers, the practical consequence is that the ETS text is the one to follow where it differs from the international source.
The reference updates in Clause 3
Clause 3 adds normative references and replaces several references throughout ISO/IEC 13864. The replacements point the reader to ETS documents used in the PISN and PTN framework. In practice, this aligns the service specification with the ETSI reference set used for related PISN and PTN work.
The modification marking
The endorsement notice says modified text is marked with sidebars, and underlining or strike-out may be used where needed. That helps readers compare the ETS wording with the underlying international text and see exactly where ETSI changed it.
What terms does SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005 define?
- Private Integrated Services Network (PISN) - the private network environment to which the supplementary services apply.
- Calling Name Identification Presentation (SS-CNIP) - the service that makes the calling party name available for presentation.
- Connected Name Identification Presentation (SS-CONP) - the service that makes the connected party name available for presentation.
- Calling/Connected Name Identification Restriction (SS-CNIR) - the service that limits whether calling or connected name information is revealed.
- European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) - the standard form used for this document and the adopted text.
- Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) - the concept framework the PISN series follows.
- ETSI - the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, which published the endorsed standard.
Who uses SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005?
SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005 is used by people who design, implement, specify, or test PISN services. That includes network engineers, equipment vendors, service providers, and quality or procurement staff checking whether a system supports name presentation and restriction correctly.
Typical tasks include:
- deciding how name information is shown on calls
- implementing privacy controls for caller or connected names
- verifying conformance of PISN equipment and services
- checking that related standards are used as the document expects
What changed in SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005 from the previous edition?
SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005 replaces the first edition, which had a standalone specification of these supplementary services. The second edition endorses ISO/IEC 13864 (1995) and includes agreed ETSI modifications, together with updated normative references and reference substitutions.
Which standards are used with SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005?
Clause 3 names these related standards and shows what each contributes:
- ISO/IEC 13864 (1995) - the international standard adopted with ETS modifications.
- ETS 300 387 - the method for specifying basic and supplementary services.
- ETS 300 171 - control aspects of circuit mode basic services.
- ETS 300 475-1 - reference configuration for PTN eXchanges.
- ETS 300 256 - Diversion supplementary services.
These references give the service framework, control context, and related PISN/PTN specifications needed to read the ETS consistently.
What does the SIST ETS 300 237 E2:2005 document contain?
The document contains the endorsed text of ISO/IEC 13864 with ETSI-approved modifications, plus the ETS-specific reference changes listed in Clause 3. It also includes the foreword, transposition dates, endorsement notice, and document history. The document marking uses sidebars, underlining, and strike-out to show modified text.

ETS 300 237: May 1996
Foreword
This second edition European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) has been produced by the
Communication, Networks, and Systems Interconnection Technical Committee (TC32) of ECMA on behalf
of its members and those of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
This ETS is one of a series of standards defining services and signalling protocols applicable to Private
Integrated Services Networks (PISN). The series uses the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)
concepts as developed by ITU-T and conforms to the framework of standards for Open Systems
Interconnection (OSI) as defined by ISO/IEC.
This particular ETS specifies the Name Identification supplementary services. The Name Identification
supplementary services are:
- Calling Name Identification Presentation (SS-CNIP);
- Connected Name Identification Presentation (SS-CONP); and
- Calling/Connected Name Identification Restriction (SS-CNIR).
The previous (first) edition of this ETS contained a "standalone" specification of these supplementary
services. This edition endorses an International Standard, ISO/IEC 13864, published since the publication
of the first edition of this ETS.
