SIST EN 300 182-3 V1.3.2:2003 is the Slovenian adoption of the ETSI standard for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Advice of Charge (AOC) supplementary service using the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. It specifies the Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) for the user side at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point, so conformance test developers can define and select user-side tests for implementations of EN 300 182-1.
This part is aimed at people who need to verify how an ISDN user implementation handles AOC signalling, including activation, transfer of charging information, and error handling. It is the user-side test-purpose document in the EN 300 182 series, with companion parts for the protocol specification, PICS proforma, ATS, and the network side.
What does SIST EN 300 182-3 V1.3.2:2003 specify?
SIST EN 300 182-3 V1.3.2:2003 specifies the user-side TSS&TP for conformance testing of AOC over DSS1. It organizes the test purposes by subscription option and call phase, and it ties each test purpose back to the protocol and PICS material used to select or deselect cases.
| Clause or part | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Clause 1 | Scope |
| Clause 2 | References |
| Clause 3 | Definitions and abbreviations |
| Clause 4 | Test Suite Structure (TSS) |
| Clause 5 | Test Purposes (TP) |
| Clause 6 | Compliance rules for an ATS |
| Clause 7 | Minimum requirement for a comprehensive testing service |
| Annex A | Changes with respect to the previous ETS 300 182-3 |
The document covers the user side of the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point, while other parts in the EN 300 182 series cover the protocol specification, PICS proforma, ATS, and the network side. The foreword also says the present version updates the references to the basic call specifications.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 182-3 V1.3.2:2003?
Test-suite organization
Clause 4 structures the user test suite into subscription option dependent and subscription option independent areas. In practice, that means a test engineer can pick the right group of tests depending on whether the implementation supports AOC per-call, for all calls, or independent transfer cases.
The dependent branch covers per-call basis and all calls, while the independent branch covers independent of bearer, transfer in the active phase, and transfer in the clearing phase. This matters because the service behaves differently depending on how AOC is subscribed and when charging information is delivered.
How the test purposes are written
Clause 5.1 defines the TP naming convention and the structure of a single TP. The identifier format links the supplementary service, the IUT type, the TSS group, and the sequence number, which makes the cases traceable in test reports and PICS-based selection.
The same clause defines a common TP structure with header, stimulus, reaction, and message structure. In practice, this gives test writers a consistent way to state the starting call state, the message to send or expect, and the state the IUT should reach.
Clause 5.1.4 says the TPs are derived from EN 300 182-1 and EN 300 182-2, and that only the T or coincident S and T reference point is considered. It also says the analysis does not depend on whether a test case is easy to build, so the suite reflects protocol requirements rather than lab convenience.
Main user-side behaviours covered
Clause 5.2 groups the user TPs into normal, exceptions, and GFP cases. For per-call basis, the document covers activation of AOC-S, AOC-D, and AOC-E from U00/AOC Idle, plus handling of charging information such as AOCSCurrencyInfoList, AOCSSpecialArrInfo, and chargingInfoFollows.
The exception cases check how the IUT reacts to chargingRequest return error, chargingRequest reject, and inopportune AOC messages. In practice, this tells a lab whether the user equipment ignores, rejects, or passes on AOC-related components in the wrong call phase without breaking normal call handling.
The GFP cases test Generic Functional Protocol handling, including invalid chargingRequest return result components and invalid protocol profiles. This matters for implementations that carry AOC information in FACILITY or other signalling elements, because they must handle malformed or unexpected components correctly.
The subscription option independent part covers AOC-E transfer independent of bearer, including broadcast and point-to-point datalink cases. It also covers transfer in the active phase and transfer in the clearing phase, so an implementation can be checked for charging updates during a call and as the call is being cleared.
Compliance and test-service rules
Clause 6 says a compliant ATS shall use a set or subset of the TPs, an appropriate subset of the TSS, the same naming conventions, and the same relationship to the PICS proforma, and it shall comply with ISO/IEC 9646-2. Clause 7 says that any organization claiming a comprehensive testing service for user equipment shall use the Remote test method at minimum.
What terms does SIST EN 300 182-3 V1.3.2:2003 define?
- Advice of Charge (AOC) - The supplementary service concerned with delivering charging information to the user.
- Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) - The signalling protocol used at the user-network interface for the service.
- Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) - The digital network environment in which the service and tests are defined.
- Implementation Under Test (IUT) - The equipment or protocol entity being tested for conformance.
- Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) - The declaration used to state which options the implementation supports.
- Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT) - The extra implementation-specific information needed to run tests.
- Test Purpose (TP) - A statement of one test objective, written so it can be turned into a conformance test.
Who uses SIST EN 300 182-3 V1.3.2:2003?
This standard is used by conformance test laboratories, test specification authors, and manufacturers of ISDN user equipment that implements AOC over DSS1. It is also used by quality and verification teams that need to map PICS answers to the right user-side test purposes.
Organizations offering a comprehensive testing service for user equipment use it to define the minimum remote testing approach. Buyer and acceptance teams can use it to check whether a test offer covers the user-side AOC behaviours that the implementation is supposed to support.
What changed in SIST EN 300 182-3 V1.3.2:2003 from the previous edition?
The changes listed for the previous ETS 300 182-3 are:
- conversion to EN layout;
- replacement of non-specific references to basic standards with references that point to the latest version.
The foreword also says this version updates the references to the basic call specifications, and the scope notes that the new edition incorporates changes from the maintenance work on the ATS part.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 182-3 V1.3.2:2003?
- EN 300 182-1 - The protocol specification for the AOC supplementary service; the TPs are based on it.
- EN 300 182-2 - The PICS proforma specification used to select and deselect tests.
- ISO/IEC 9646-1 - The general conformance testing framework used for terms such as ATS, IUT, PICS, PIXIT, and TP.
- ISO/IEC 9646-2 - The abstract test suite specification and the compliance basis for an ATS.
- ISO/IEC 9646-3 - The TTCN notation used in conformance testing.
- EN 300 196-1 - The generic functional protocol for supplementary services, used for component handling and GFP-related references.
- EN 300 403-1 - The basic call signalling specification used for call reference handling and call-state context.
- ETS 300 196-2 - The PICS proforma for the generic functional protocol, referenced for bearer-independent broadcast connectionless transport support.
- ITU-T I.411 - The reference configuration for the user-network interface.
- ITU-T I.112 - The vocabulary source for ISDN and service definitions.
- ITU-T E.164 - The numbering plan source for ISDN numbers.
- ITU-T I.210 - The source for the notion of supplementary service.
- EN 300 182-4, 5, and 6 - The other series parts named in the foreword for ATS and TSS&TP coverage on the user and network sides.
What does the SIST EN 300 182-3 V1.3.2:2003 document contain?
The document contains a figure that lays out the user-side test suite structure, plus tables that define the TP identifier scheme and the structure of a single TP. Clause 5 then lists the user test purposes for AOC, grouped by subscription option, call phase, and GFP handling.
It also contains compliance rules for building an ATS from the TPs, and a minimum-service rule for remote testing. Annex A gives the change summary relative to the previous ETS 300 182-3, and the closing history records the document’s publication trail.

5 Test Purposes (TP)
5.1 Introduction
For each test requirement a TP is defined.
5.1.1 TP naming convention
TPs are numbered, starting at 001, within each group. Groups are organized according to the TSS. Additional references
are added to identify the actual test suite and whether it applies to the network or the user (see table 1).

5.1.2 Source of TP definition
The TPs are based on EN 300 182-1 [1].
5.1.3 TP structure
Each TP has been written in a manner which is consistent with all other TPs. The intention of this is to make the TPs
more readable and checkable. A particular structure has been used and this is illustrated in table 2. This table should be
read in conjunction with any TP, i.e. use a TP as an example to fully understand the table.

5.1.4 Test strategy
As the base standard EN 300 182-1 [1] contains no explicit requirements for testing, the TPs were generated as a result
of an analysis of the base standard and the PICS specification EN 300 182-2 [2]. The criteria applied include the
following:
- only the requirements from the point of view of the T or coincident S and T reference point are considered;
- whether or not a test case can be built from the TP is not considered.
