This part of IEC 61300 details a procedure for determining the suitability of a fibre optic device to withstand environmental conditions of extended low temperature (cold), which may occur in use, storage and/or transport. This procedure does not assess the ability of a device to operate during temperature variations; in this case, IEC 61300-2-22 would be used.

La CEI 61300-2-17:2010 précise une méthode destinée à déterminer l'aptitude d'un dispositif à fibres optiques à supporter des conditions environnementales de basse température prolongée (froid) qui peuvent intervenir en cours d'utilisation, de stockage et/ou de transport. Ladite méthode n'évalue pas la capacité d'un dispositif à fonctionner pendant des variations de température; dans ce cas, c'est la CEI 61300-2-22 qui s'applique. Les principales modifications par rapport à l'édition antérieure du document sont: - La procédure et les détails devant être spécifiés ont été réexaminés; - L'écart de température dans la partie sévérité a été modifié de ± 3 °C à ± 2 °C.

Ta del IEC 61300 podrobno opisuje postopek ugotavljanja primernosti optičnega elementa, da kljubuje okoljskim razmeram z zelo nizko temperaturo (v mrazu), do katerih lahko pride pri uporabi, shranjevanju in/ali prevozu. Ta postopek ne ocenjuje zmožnosti pripomočka za delovanje pri temperaturnem nihanju; v tem primeru bi se uporabil IEC 61300-2-22.

Foreword
The text of document 86B/2984/CDV, future edition 3 of IEC 61300-2-17, prepared by SC 86B, Fibre
optic interconnecting devices and passive components, of IEC TC 86, Fibre optics, was submitted to the
IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN 61300-2-17 on 2011-01-03.
This European Standard supersedes EN 61300-2-17:2003.
The main changes with respect to EN 61300-2-17:2003 are listed below:
a) Procedure and details to be specified were reconsidered;
b) The deviation of the temperature in severity was changed ± 3 °C to ± 2 °C.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN and CENELEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent
rights.
The following dates were fixed:
