SIST EN 300 176-1 V1.3.2:2003 is the Slovenian adoption of ETSI EN 300 176-1 Version 1.3.2 for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT). It specifies approval tests for DECT radio equipment in the 1 880 MHz to 1 900 MHz band, and it is written for manufacturers, test laboratories and approval authorities that need to check radio performance, spectrum use and related control functions.
What does SIST EN 300 176-1 V1.3.2:2003 specify?
SIST EN 300 176-1 V1.3.2:2003 defines the approval tests for DECT equipment, including tests for radio frequency parameters, security-related elements and DECT protocols that support radio testing and efficient use of spectrum. It also covers DECT speech transmission testing based on the ITU-T G.726 ADPCM speech codec at 32 kbit/s.
The document is organized around general test principles and a set of test cases. Clauses 4 to 18 cover document layout, test conditions, RF accuracy, timing, transmission, unwanted emissions, receiver testing, synchronization, EMC, identity testing, spectrum use and Wireless Relay Station (WRS) testing.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| A | Void |
| B | Test fixture calibration and radiated spurious emissions |
| C | Conducted spurious emissions |
| D | Test Support Profile (TSP) |
| E | Measurement of BER and FER |
| F | Synchronization loss measurement by the LT |
| G | Requirements for PPs with direct PP to PP communication mode |
| H | Installation-related issues |
| I | Essential requirements justification |
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 176-1 V1.3.2:2003?
Test submission and applicability
The standard requires the applicant to present suitable equipment for type examination and to provide a PICS, a PIXIT, the declared class of use for fixed equipment, and the intended host-equipment configuration where relevant. In practice, this gives the test laboratory the information needed to choose the right setup and exercise the right functions.
Clause 4.3 ties the test plan to the type of equipment. A receiver-only device is tested for receiver spurious emissions, a transmitter-equipped device is tested across the main RF clauses, a synchronization-port device is tested under clause 14, and PPs and FPs have identity tests under clause 16.
Radio performance and spectrum use
The document’s central purpose is to check that DECT equipment uses the radio spectrum efficiently and does not create harmful emissions or poor receiver behavior. Clauses 7 to 13 cover RF carrier accuracy, timing accuracy, transmission burst behavior, transmitted power, modulation, unwanted RF power radiation, receiver sensitivity, reference BER/FER, interference, blocking and intermodulation.
That matters in practice because approval depends on both clean transmission and adequate reception. Manufacturers and test labs need to verify the device against the specified measurement setups and verdict criteria, not only under nominal conditions but also where the clause calls for extreme conditions.
2 Mbit/s services and higher-level modulation
Clause 4.3.10 allows equipment to use 4-level and/or 8-level modulation in addition to 2-level modulation for 2 Mbit/s services. The higher-level schemes are used only in the stated fields, while the A-field remains 2-level during testing.
For a reader, this means higher data rate operation is allowed only within defined modulation combinations and must still be compatible with the basic DECT configuration. The applicant also has to declare conformance for RF carrier modulation and the power template, and describe how higher-level modulation is activated in test standby mode.
Test methods, uncertainty and special cases
The standard relies on a Lower Tester (LT) and an Upper Tester (UT) model, with test setups selected for each test case. Clause 4.4 says the measured value is used against the limit, and the test report must include the laboratory’s measurement uncertainty.
That is important because the report must show how the result was obtained, not just the pass/fail outcome. Annex D, E, F, G and H add standardized test support, BER and FER measurement, synchronization loss procedures, direct PP to PP communication rules, and installation-related guidance.
What terms does SIST EN 300 176-1 V1.3.2:2003 define?
- Equipment Under Test (EUT) - the equipment submitted to the test laboratory for type examination.
- Fixed Part (FP) - the fixed-side DECT grouping between the local network and the air interface.
- Radio Fixed Part (RFP) - the part of an FP that contains one or more radio end points connected to one antenna system.
- Portable Part (PP) - the portable-side grouping between the user and the DECT air interface.
- Portable radio Termination (PT) - the logical DECT functions on the portable side of the air interface.
- Lower Tester (LT) - the test system that includes the emulated DECT PT/FT, measurement equipment and controller.
- Upper Tester (UT) - the part of the EUT that receives test commands and places the equipment in test modes.
- Test Support Profile (TSP) - the standardized set of services, messages, parameters and procedures that can be implemented for testing.
Who uses SIST EN 300 176-1 V1.3.2:2003?
DECT manufacturers use this standard to prepare products for approval testing and to define test access, declarations and supported options. Accredited test laboratories use it to set up RF measurements, BER/FER checks, spurious emission tests and synchronization tests in a consistent way.
Approval and licensing authorities use it as guidance for conformity assessment of DECT radio equipment. It is also relevant to quality managers, design teams and buyers of DECT FPs, PPs, WRSs and host-connected equipment who need to understand what will be checked during type approval.
What changed in SIST EN 300 176-1 V1.3.2:2003 from the previous edition?
The scope says this version updates ETS 300 176-1 based on EN DEN-DECT-050115, adding optional 4-level and 8-level modulation schemes for 2 Mbit/s services. It also includes approved change requests to Edition 2.
The foreword adds that Annex J has been removed because GPS synchronization requirements are now specified in EN 300 175-2.
Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 176-1 V1.3.2:2003?
- EN 300 175-1 to EN 300 175-8 - the DECT Common Interface parts that define the physical layer, MAC, DLC, network, identities, security and speech coding.
- ISO/IEC 9646-1 - the conformance testing framework used as the model for the test structure.
- ITU-T Recommendation G.726 - the 32 kbit/s ADPCM speech codec used in the speech part of the DECT approval framework.
- EN 300 700 - the WRS standard referenced for Wireless Relay Station work.
- TBR 006, TBR 010 and TBR 022 - attachment and telephony-related terminal requirements referenced for related DECT applications.
- EN 55022 - the radio interference measurement reference for information technology equipment.
- DT.04 - recommendations for accredited DECT conformance testing.
What does the SIST EN 300 176-1 V1.3.2:2003 document contain?
The document contains detailed measurement methods, test setups and verdict criteria rather than just high-level requirements. It gives site descriptions and calibration methods for open air sites, anechoic chambers, stripline couplers and indoor test sites, plus rules for standard equipment positioning.
It also includes LT functions, uncertainty values, RF sampling rules, BER and FER measurement logic, and multiple test setups for transmitter, receiver and interference cases. Annexes B and C provide calibration and spurious-emission procedures, while annexes D to H support testing of protocol behavior, synchronization, direct PP to PP operation and installation-related issues.
