IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation
of national standards institutes (IS0 Member Bodies). The work of developing
International Standards is carried out through IS0 Technical Committees. Every
Member Body interested in a subject for which a Technical Committee has been set
up has the right to be represented on that Committee. International organizations,
governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
Draft International Standards adopted by the Technical Committees are circulated
to the Member Bodies for approval before their acceptance as International
Standards by the IS0 Council.
International Standard IS0 2283 was drawn up by Technical Committee

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD
Long shank machine taps with nominal diameters from
3 to 24 mm and l/8 to 1 in
SCOPE AND FIELD OF APPLICATION
This International Standard specifies the general dimensions of long shank machine taps.
It covers taps with nominal diameters from 3 to 24 mm and l/8 to 1 in and applies essentially to relieved shank taps.
The dimensions of these taps are in accordance with those given in ISO/R 529.
Shank lengths (L - /) are increased by 50 % with respect to those given in ISO/R 529; total lengths therefore vary accordingly.
This International Standard applies, as does &O/R 529, to the following thread types :
IS0 metric threads
(See Table I)
- coarse pitches
- fine pitches (See Table 2)
IS0 inch threads
- Unified Coarse (UNC) (See Table 3)
- Unified Fine (See Table 4)
(UW
Taps for non-recommended threads are given in an Appendix and apply to the following thread types :
- British Standard Whitworth (BSW) (See Table 5)
(See Table 5)
- British Standard Fine (BSF)
- British Association (See Table 6)
UN
For tolerances and for marking, refer to ISO/R 529.
Where taps with diameters larger than those covered by this International Standard are required, the threaded length shall
be that given for the corresponding nominal diameter in lSO/R 529 and the length of shank (L - /) shall be increased
by 50 %.

Tarauds à machine, à queue longue, de diamètre nominal
3 à 24 mm et 1/8 à 1 in
suivants :
- ((British Standard Whitworth)) (BSW) (Voir tableau 5)
- ((British Standard Fine)) (BSF) (Voir tableau 5)
c - ((British Association)) (BA) (Voir tableau 6)
