This draft European Standard specifies mechanical safety requirements and testing for all types of fully erected domestic adult beds including all component elements such as bed frame, bed base, mattress and mattress pads (when they form a unit with the mattress). It does not applay to foldaway beds, bunk beds, children cots and adjustable beds for disabled persons where separate standards exist, as well as waterbeds and air beds. Further tests may be applicable for test units that are multi purposes, e.g. convertible sofa beds and power driven system.

Diese Europäische Norm legt sicherheitstechnische Anforderungen und Prüfungen für alle Arten von gebrauchsfertig aufgestellten Betten für Erwachsene einschließlich aller zugehörigen Bauteile (z.B. Bettrahmen, Bettböden, Matratze und Matratzenauflagen, wenn diese eine Einheit mit der Matratze bilden)fest. Ausgenommen sind Klappbetten, Etagenbetten, Kinderbetten und verstellbare Betten für Behinderte, für die separate Normen vorliegen sowie Wasserbetten und Luftmatratzen.

La présente norme européenne spécifie les exigences de sécurité mécanique et les méthodes d'essais correspondantes relatives à tous les types de lits pour adultes en position de couchage permanente, à usage domestique, incluant tous les composants comme les encadrements, les sommiers, les matelas et surmatelas (quand ceux-ci font partie intégrante du matelas). Elle ne s'applique pas aux lits rabattables, lits superposés, les lits d'enfants et lits réglables pour handicapés qui sont traités dans d'autres normes spécifiques, ainsi que les lits à eau et les pneumatiques.
