Standardisation mandate issued to the European standardisation organisations (ESOs) to develop European standards for bicycles, bicycles for young children and luggage carriers for bicycles
General Information
This European Standard specifies safety and performance requirements for the design and testing of luggage carriers intended for permanent mounting above or adjacent to the wheels of cycles and lays down guide lines for instructions on the use and care of such luggage carriers. This European Standard does not apply to removable luggage (for example handlebar bags or baskets that are not permanently attached).

ISO 11243:2016 specifies safety and performance requirements for the design and testing of luggage carriers intended for mounting (with or without tool) above and adjacent to the wheels of cycles and lays down guide lines for instructions on the use and care of such luggage carriers.

Toy carrier intended to be mounted on bicycles for young children in the scope of ISO 8098 are not covered by ISO 11243:2016.

This part of ISO 4210 specifies safety and performance requirements for the design, assembly, and
testing of bicycles and sub-assemblies having saddle height as given in Table 1, and lays down guidelines
for manufacturer’s instructions on the use and care of such bicycles.
This part of ISO 4210 applies to young adult bicycles with maximum saddle height of 635 mm or more
and less than 750 mm, city and trekking bicycles, mountain bicycles, and racing bicycles that have a
maximum saddle height of 635 mm or more including folding bicycles (see Table 1 and Figure 1).
This part of ISO 4210 does not apply to specialized types of bicycle, such as delivery bicycles, recumbent
bicycles, tandems, BMX bicycles, and bicycles designed and equipped for use in severe applications such
as sanctioned competition events, stunting, or aerobatic manoeuvres.
NOTE For bicycles with a maximum saddle height of 435 mm or less, see ISO 8124-1, and with a maximum
saddle height of more than 435 mm and less than 635 mm, see ISO 8098.

ISO 4210-2:2015 specifies safety and performance requirements for the design, assembly, and testing of bicycles and sub-assemblies having saddle height as given in Table 1, and lays down guidelines for manufacturer's instructions on the use and care of such bicycles.
This part of ISO 4210 applies to young adult bicycles with maximum saddle height of 635 mm or more and less than 750 mm, city and trekking bicycles, mountain bicycles, and racing bicycles that have a maximum saddle height of 635 mm or more including folding bicycles (see Table 1 and Figure 1).
This part of ISO 4210 does not apply to specialized types of bicycle, such as delivery bicycles, recumbent bicycles, tandems, BMX bicycles, and bicycles designed and equipped for use in severe applications such as sanctioned competition events, stunting, or aerobatic manoeuvres.

ISO 8098:2014 is applicable to bicycles with a maximum saddle height of more than 435 mm and less than 635 mm, propelled by a transmitted drive to the rear wheel.
ISO 8098:2014 is not applicable to special bicycles intended for performing stunts (e.g. BMX bicycles).

This European Standard applies to bicycles that have a maximum saddle height of 635 mm or more and that are in-tended for use on public roads.
This standard does not apply to mountain bicycles and racing bicycles, tradesman's delivery bicycles, recumbent bicycles, tandems and bicycles designed and equipped for use in sanctioned competitive events.

This European Standard applies to racing bicycles intended for high-speed amateur use on public roads, and on which the saddle can be adjusted to provide a maximum saddle height of 635 mm or more.
This European Standard does not apply to mountain bicycles and to specialised types of racing bicycle such as tandems or bicycles designed and equipped for use in sanctioned competitive events.

No requirements on lighting equipment, reflectors and warning devices are specified in this European Standard, due to the existence of several different national regulations applicable in the European Countries.
