ISO/TC 61/SC 9/WG 15 - Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate
General Information
ISO 7391-2:2006 specifies the methods of preparation of test specimens and the test methods to be used in determining the properties of polycarbonate moulding and extrusion materials. Requirements for handling test material and for conditioning both the test material before moulding and the specimens before testing are given. Procedures and conditions for the preparation of test specimens and procedures for measuring properties of the materials from which these specimens are made are given. Properties and test methods which are suitable and necessary to characterize polycarbonate moulding and extrusion materials are listed. The properties have been selected from the general test methods in ISO 10350-1. Other test methods in wide use for or of particular significance to these moulding and extrusion materials are also included in this part of ISO 7391, as are the designatory properties specified in Part 1.

ISO 7391-1:2006 establishes a system of designation for polycarbonate thermoplastic material, which may be used as the basis for specifications. The types of polycarbonate plastic are differentiated from each other by a classification system based on appropriate levels of the designatory properties viscosity number melt volume-flow rate Charpy impact strength and on information about the intended application and/or method of processing, important properties, additives, colorants, fillers and reinforcing materials. This part of ISO 7391 is applicable to thermoplastic polyesters of carbonic acid and aromatic dihydroxy compounds. The polyester may be a homopolymer, a copolymer or a mixture of the two. It applies to materials ready for normal use in the form of powder, granules or pellets and to materials unmodified or modified by colorants, additives, fillers, etc.
