Security measures regulated by international standards

Transportation systems are among the most used systems globally. The human need to move from place to place led to the emergence of an entire industry, and as a result, the indirect industries associated with it. Today, the regulation of transport systems at the international level is carried out by many authorities, since we are talking about human safety. Moreover, a huge part of the world market of services and goods is occupied by activities directly related to transport and its maintenance. More and more companies are emerging and creating an increased level of supply. In this case, the need to regulate safety and quality issues at the international level increases significantly. Today, such documents as international standards are responsible for this issue. Today we will introduce you to the basic rules and recommendations of international standardization institutions in the transport systems industry.

Intelligent transport systems -- Traffic and travel information messages via traffic message coding

ISO 14819-2:2021

Information technologies used in the transport system industry are subject to detailed detailing and, as a result, detailed regulation. Due to the fact that the amount of information that needs to be transmitted increases every day, the number of regulatory legal acts increases accordingly. One of the latest international standards in this category is ISO 14819-2: 2021.

ISO 14819-1 describes the ALERT-C protocol concept and message structure used to achieve densely coded messages to be carried in the RDS-TMC feature. This document specifies the `Events List' to be used in coding those messages.

This International Standard is specification. Certain protocols that it regulates may not apply to all enterprises that are associated with the use of transport technologies. That is why, before purchasing it for implementation in an existing system, we recommend that you familiarize yourself in more detail with the technical characteristics of each standard.

Intelligent transport systems - DATEX II data exchange specifications for traffic management and information - Part 4: VMS publication

EN 16157-4:2021

The issue of information security is regulated by international standards not only as a separate category, but also as part of other sub-sectors, such as, for example, transport systems. For traffic management and information exchange specifications, an international document such as EN 16157-4: 2021 was created.

This European Standard (EN 16157 series) specifies and defines component facets supporting the exchange and shared use of data and information in the field of traffic and travel.

The component facets include the framework and context for exchanges, the modelling approach, data content, data structure and relationships. This European Standard is applicable to:

-   Traffic and travel information which is of relevance to road networks (non-urban and urban),

-   Public transport information that is of direct relevance to the use of a road network (e.g. road link via train or ferry service),

-   Traffic and travel information in the case of Cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS).

This European Standard establishes specifications for data exchange between any two instances of the following actors:

-   Traffic Information Centres (TICs),

-   Traffic Control Centres (TCCs),

-   Service Providers (SPs),

Use of this European Standard may be applicable for use by other actors. This European Standard series covers, at least, the following types of informational content:

-   Road traffic event information – planned and unplanned occurrences both on the road network and in the surrounding environment,

-   Operator initiated actions,

-   Road traffic measurement data, status data, and travel time data, -   Travel information relevant to road users, including weather and environmental information,

-   Road traffic management information and instructions relating to use of the road network.

This part of the CEN/TS 16157 series specifies the informational structures, relationships, roles, attributes and associated data types required for publishing variable message sign information within the Datex II framework. This is specified in two publications, a DATEX II VMS Table Publication sub-model and a VMS Publication sub-model, which are part of the DATEX II platform independent model, but this part excludes those elements that relate to:

-   location information which are specified in EN 16157-2,

-   common information elements, which are specified in EN 16157-7,

-   situation information which are specified in EN 16157-3.

The VMS Table Publication supports the occasional exchange of tables containing generally static reference information about deployed VMS which enable subsequent efficient references to be made to pre-defined static information relating to those VMS. The VMS Publication supports the exchange of the graphic and textual content of one or several VMS plus any status information on device configuration that aid the comprehension of the informational content. This content is potentially subject to rapid change. These publications are not intended to support the control or configuration of VMS equipment. Each is part of the DATEX II platform independent model.

The above technical characteristics and aspects affecting the application of this standard make it clear that there are similar documents that can be applied in absolutely identical operating conditions. The only difference is the type of encoding of the transmitted information. If you have any questions about what kind of document you need to increase the productivity of your activities, you can contact a team of specialists who will advise you and help you select the correct standard.

Measurement of road tunnel air quality

ISO 23431:2021

When it comes to regulating the concentration of certain substances in the air, international standards are created not only for production processes, but also for transport technologies, and specifically for measuring processes in tunnels. One of the documents regulating this issue is ISO 23431: 2021.

This document describes methods for determining air speed and flow direction, CO, NO and NO2 concentrations and visibility in road tunnels using direct-reading instruments. This document specifically excludes requirements relating to instrument conformance testing.

Since this document is specialized on certain elements and their quantitative content, we recommend that you think about purchasing this international standard only if the technical characteristics are completely identical.

Air quality -- General aspects -- Vocabulary

ISO 4225:2020

Air quality affects human health. In the light of recent events and global trends, a huge amount of time is devoted to this issue. To regulate the general aspects of air quality, and more specifically, to clarify the terminology used in this category of international standards, documents such as ISO 4225: 2020 are created.

This document specifies terms and definitions that are related to air quality. These are either general terms or are used in connection with the sampling and measurement of gases, vapours and airborne particles for the determination of air quality. The terms included are those that have been identified as being fundamental because their definition is necessary to avoid ambiguity and ensure consistency of use. An alphabetical index of the terms is provided in Annex A. This document is applicable to all International Standards, ISO Technical Reports, ISO Technical Specifications, and ISO Guides related to air quality.

If you use one of or several types of documents in the above list, this international document is necessary in order to avoid further misinterpretation of one or another terminology in your industry.

Transport Systems Standards - A Map to High Performance

This area includes both the availability of a large number of technologies and equipment, and the need for regulation of physical and natural aspects. Taking seriously the issue of entering the international level of interaction, it is necessary to understand that at this level the presence of international standards is mandatory. Moreover, international standards can help structure your existing enterprise system at the local level in such a way that the financial results of the activities carried out will achieve higher indicators. Our company carries out an individual selection of international standards and consultation for each enterprise so that you have the opportunity to grow and not stop at the achieved results.
